Interview by FXpansion [05 Nov 2007|08:54am]

FXpansion, makers of the BFD plugin, interviewed Gary Numan and Ade Fenton about their use of music software.

Numan Interview

FX - If you could create a plug-in that would change your life in the studio what would it be?
Gary - One that I could type in' Gary Numan' in the style pull down, then add, Heavy, Dark and Anthemic from the sub menu's, click on the Write 10 Tracks button and then piss off to the beach for the day.

M.E. - Gary Numan Tribute Video [02 Mar 2007|06:40pm]

Hi everyone,

I made a special music video as an early birthday surprise for Gary. This video is a tribute to him and explores all of his different incarnations over the years spanning 1979 to 2003. The footage is from his wide array of music videos, brought up to date with my own special color scheme and effects. The featured music is "M.E. (Hybrid Version)."

Download in High Quality - DIVX format (requires free codec from divx.com)

Medium Quality: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2012045300

Low Quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oey7yXjQq-A

If this goes over well, I'm also thinking about making a few videos for my favorite concerts.

I also have some graphic art featuring Gary at my Myspace page.

Enjoy and feedback is much appreciated!

The Race, on Sky One [27 Oct 2006|09:37am]

If you may or may not be aware, Gary is totally taking place in the new Sky One show called "The Race", teaching 5 female and 5 male celebrities how to race, and then pitting them against each other. Starting on Monday, November 6th, a week and a half from now.

I am from America, and have absolutely no cable/satellite plan, and cannot afford one, but I've GOT to see this show. For the love of all that is Numan, PLEASE record this show and put it on a torrent, or find someone who can.

Questions. [10 Sep 2006|02:19pm]

Listening to the Ghost: Exhibition Tour album, and Numan goes on a bit before playing Cars. He asks the question, "Do you know what is number 26? Do you think that they're gonna play it? No, me neither, so we're gonna. Somebody's got to, haven't they?" And the crowd flares up while he's asking these questions.

What is the significance of the number 26? Who's "they" as opposed to "we"? Is Gary just being a dork?

Thank you for your answers.

JAGGED is RELEASED and it ROCKS!!!!!!!! [15 Mar 2006|12:24pm]

[ mood | "I think it's YOU!" ]

Here is my 'official' review of Gary Numan's album 'JAGGED'. If you haven't picked it up yet - DO IT NOW! It's worth a listen from the first note to the last!

On to the review....

Jagged is by far the best I've heard from Gary. It's like he went into his back catalogue and made a bridge from 1986 straight to 2006. It's incredible - there's hints of Replicas, Warriors, and The Fury all over the place. I'm not sure but I think my favorite song on here so far is 'Before You Hate It', I don't have a song on the album that I don't like. There is usually one that I think "well, that one isn't as good as the rest" and skip over it - not one of those songs exist on Jagged. They are all top notch songs and Gary has put so much of his power and feeling into every track! It's one of those albums that you 'feel' rather than hear. Although I feel the album could have been called The Warrior's Bridge or Jagged Fury or Haunted Replica. LOL

The singlemost thing that I have to say about this album is that it's finally produced to bring out Gary's voice in every track. He is no longer 'hiding' behind a pulsing baseline or wailing guitar or a female. He's been stripped back to what he was in the beginning - plain and simple Gary Numan. Technology has finally caught up with his imagination and he can now create the soundscape he wanted back in the early 80's.

Track 1 - Pressure - It sets the mood for the rest of the album - basically it lets us know that he feels no pressure anymore and he's finally free to make the music that he's wanted to for the last 25 years and you can feel it. A message to the 'so called' fans that would threaten his family and his life for not recording exactly what they want to hear. I'm glad that he's given them the proverbial finger and has said 'Bugger Off'. Turkish melodies lead me to believe that his newborn baby girl, Persia might have inspired the music.

Track 2 - Fold - Very deep track, tons of layers of wonderful sound. You have to listen to this one at full blast to 'feel' the effects of this one. The demo didn't do this one justice. I've caught myself humming this while filing at work - awesome.

Track 3 - Halo - This song is headed directly to the dancefloor of any club worth a darn. You can't help but wiggle in your seat and really wonder 'Does God Bleed?' The live drums have really added back an element that was truly missing from Gary's music. Sure programmed drum sequences are cool but the 'real thing' is always BEST! I can close my eyes and see Gary back in his white suit belting out this song circa 1985 and it fits. Numan at his best.

Track 4 - Slave - Feels like it was pulled straight out of Warriors. Play Warriors and then take a listen to Slave. It fits perfectly.

Track 5 - In A Dark Place - WOW - a return to Replicas/Warriors/The Fury sounds. Reminds me of the themes of loss and desolation from The Fury. That album still breaks my heart to this day. Makes me wish he'd redo Creatures without the female vocals.

Track 6 - Haunted - Borne of Pure, traces of Sacrifice, lamentings from Warriors, soaring synths from Fury - this track rocks from the first note.

Track 7 - Blind - Should be a single. Has #1 potential in the US and UK maybe a few other countries. It is definitely catchy and replay worthy - I've listened to the whole album non-stop since Sunday afternoon.

Track 8 - Before You Hate It - Quite possibly my favourite track on this album. It very reminiscent of Replicas/The Fury era. Brings me back to my favourite Numan period too, when I was a young girl of 12 or 13 lamenting and falling in love with Numan.

Track 9 - Melt - Except for the modern sounding sampling - this song could have easily been on Replicas. I'm so happy Gary has found himself again.

Track 10 - Scanner - Sounds like a holdover from Sacrifice that Gary just didn't have the ability to tweak exactly the way he wanted it UNTIL NOW! 'Sometimes Love Breaks My Heart' - Classic, no other word to describe it.

Track 11 - Jagged - I was apprehensive of another 'whispered' song but holy cow the anthemic chorus blew me away! This song is absolutely layer upon layer of Numan awesomeness. It truly makes you want 'his disease'!

US Release - Track 12 - Fold (Alternative Version) - Take a GREAT song - then make it STUPENDOUSLY SUPER! That's what happened when Fold got worked up. If all the other alternative tracks that will be released have this sort of treatment, we'll have more awesome Numan tracks than our CD players will be able to handle!

Say this with me - ADE FENTON IS A PHREAKING PRODUCTION GENIUS! Gary couldn't have hooked up with a better partner to make his music with. I look forward to the future of what their collaborations can produce!

I can only add that you need to get this one ASAP. He'll be touring the US this fall - be ready to be Numanized!

Again for those not watching the site, Jagged's web site is up finally!

Has videos, and a free download off the new album. (be warned you have to rename the free mp3 file... somebody screwed up and put .php instead of .mp3 .. but it's fine after you rename it with it's proper extention.)

The Dreamsbox & Sinsbox Projects | share dreams and sins [07 Feb 2006|10:02pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

Hey all,

I was on blinklist and saw the following article about dreamsbox.com and sinsbox.com. Since its revelant to this community, I thought I would share it:

"2 documentation projects emerged this month to spearhead a new push in the Web 2.0 era for simplicity. The Dreamsbox (http://www.dreamsbox.com) Project seeks to document the world's dreams, allowing for anonymous posting of dreams along with the creations of free personal dream diaries. The Sinsbox Project (http://www.sinsbox.com) seeks to document sins and secrets, allowing for anonymous confessions and submissions of expressional art. Both projects allow for a unique rating system..."

Both projects are actually pretty addictive and fun. I love the fact that they're simple to use but their design kinda suck and sinsbox.comis a bit too dark and scandalous for me but nonetheless i'm addicted. As it turns out the guy who started the 2 projects went to school with me back in the days! Now I guess he's an internet junkie. haha! Anyways, please spread words about these 2 projects to friends and family if you can through word of mouth or through your own postings. In general, I just think that these two projects are very decent in terms of what they're trying to do. Read the "about" page to learn how cool these people are.

Jagged Icons [06 Feb 2006|12:52pm]

I'm very pumped for Numan's album, so much so, that I made some custom (and simple?) icons for it. I didn't have any characteristically jagged fonts, so I went with a font I downloaded long ago called 'Acidic', but I did make a good jagged effect with the words themselves. I quite like these icons myself (hence why I use it, haha), I just hope you guys do, too. There are two: one for the US release date, and one for the UK release date. I also inverted the black and whites on both, there's black on white, and an inverted version for those who like white on black.

Dig in.Collapse )

If you enjoy them enough to add them to your collection, please credit me.

Yay. [26 Nov 2005|09:30pm]

The person who created the Gary Numan MySpace Music page has posted a bulletin that the man himself will be taking it over; meaning it will be his to upkeep and monitor. I am a pessimist, to the bone... but there is a bit of hope that he'll get the chance to read all the great things his fans say about him on there. It has made things quite easy for artists and fans to connect, and even easier to block out the creeps. I'll be very glad when that happens. MAYBE there will be more media on the page than the girl could get ahold of. That would be totally sweet. Maybe he'll see my pleas to play at least once in New England. That would be even sweeter. I hope everyone had a nice holiday, and nicer holidays to come.

Bauhaus tomorrow!!!! [12 Nov 2005|12:06pm]

Okay... I know this ain't got much to do with Gazza; I'm just trying to get the word out on a couple of OTHER really great bands whose prime was in the 80's and are loved by many a New Wave goth... I don't think anyone will mind... Echo and the Bunnymen are playing in one week in Boston (same bldg. as Avalon but different room?) I've foolishly scrounged up enough money to go see them both, as I believe this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I never thought I'd get to see two great 80's bands such as these. They are both very unique and talented in their own right; a breath of fresh air compared to the music floating around the states. I'm SURE Echo isn't sold out. If anyone else is going to either show, it'd be great to say hi.

...if THOSE two bands can cross the water to play in Boston, there's NO reason why Numan can't! ::Prays to the aliens::
